Charlavan Baker Hart

c-pics-mostly-028Charlavan Baker Hart is an artist, a writer and image consultant. The current project and passion is her latest book, Tit Tatts: Life After Breast Cancer. Having survived an advanced case of breast cancer, she is determined to help those who are fighting the disease but her focus is to make their lives better, not worse.

This is aided by her 20 year background in image consulting. The book will be offered in both print and audio format.

Her friendly, tell it like it is style is fun to read but informative as well. It demystifies some of the medical terms and lets the reader and patient figure out what exactly they are talking about and what they might expect, strictly from a non-medical viewpoint.

Having written a weekly newspaper column for many years, part of the book is dedicated to those columns, showing an often humorous and wiser look at a life fuller and more meaningful that just the ‘chapter on breast cancer’. Life has a lot of parts. That was one. The name of her column is PEARLS, to offer pearls of wisdom or what to wear with a black dress. Nothing seems to be off limits to her, claiming that she has that ‘get out of jail free’ card after having fought the battle and won. Her secret to recovery was to have all the scars from the many surgeries, tattooed with flowers and butterflies. She claims to have walked out of the parlor completely well (and more colorful).

Her own story of reconstruction of the breasts reads like a novel, including four eventful days of ‘leech therapy’.

She holds a patent on determining skin color to better understand your clothing and hair color needs. Her first book years ago dealt with image analysis. Part of the tragedy of breast cancer is that women often lose their self image. She fights hard and successfully to keep that from happening.

Book Reviews

"After twenty-five years of practice and thousands of patients, Charlavan has finally written the book I have waited for. Not the medical text with the statistics, options and risks, but the personal side of the breast cancer experience. This is a must read for anyone at any stage of their journey. From disease to wellness." Dr. Michael Halls, Alvarado Institute, San Diego, Ca.
